When I started this project I didn’t know that I would be so moved or get so attached to these Fabulous Ladies and their stories so quickly but here we are. Meet Rose.
Hair and Makeup: Robyn Langevin
5 years ago Rose was diagnosed with breast cancer, and underwent a mastectomy, a year later as a prevention (or so she thought) she went in to have the other removed to find it too had a lump. She has undergone both radiation and chemotherapy and just this week she passed her 5 years and is now in remission. Rose has been dubbed by her children as a Cancer Slayer, she didn’t just survive she slayed.
I asked Rose why she wanted to be a part of this project and she told me frankly and honestly that the cancer treatments have left her feeling and looking older than she is. Her hair has not grown back, her eye brows and lashes are gone. Chemo can save lives but it also ravishes the body and mind. Rose wanted to see herself in a beautiful portrait so she could start to heal the effects the cancer has had on her self esteem. I told her I could help her see that. Rose’s true beauty comes from inside her but I am also a woman and I understand and know that need to see oneself’s beauty from the outside.
Rose was nervous but ready to jump in and do her part and make this shoot amazing and she “slayed” it. It has been a real pleasure meeting you Rose, and thank you for trusting me to tell your story.
