This is Birdy, 58 years Fabulous! Birdy lives and works on a ranch by Caroline with her husband. They raise bison, mules and dogs. She is Alberta born and raised, likes working out, yoga, aqua fit, camping and spending time with her grandkids, they have 6.
Birdy reasons for joining this project were many. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2012 and had a relapse in 2016. She has and is working hard at being healthy now that she is cancer free. She feels she is at a transition in life and wanted to do something for herself. She almost didn’t come because she felt guilty about it.
Birdy shared some stories of her life with me during our shoot, stories that are not mine to tell but to listen to. Something I love about this business of photography is the connection I get to make with my clients. Putting yourself in front of a camera is a very vulnerable thing to do, and you need to form a trust with your photographer in a very short amount of time to get authentic images out of the experience. I can tell when a person trusts me when they open up about their journey and share their stories. I don’t take that lightly, it’s a gift they give me.
This project is an important one. My intent is always to show you the best portrait you have seen of yourself and to give you an experience that makes looking at the images fill you with joy. What I get out of it is equally just as special, I get to meet these wonderful women who have lived a bit of life and show them how beautiful they are. Most cannot see it for themselves but I can show them.
Birdy’s fav saying is: “Acceptance to thyn own self be true.”
This is Birdy.
